Please say you were cancelled.

That's unbelievable! What are you expected to do? Sing a lullaby, read a bedtime story?

Just direct the patient to your blog, sure to put them to sleep pronto:-)

The call handlers should be allowed to tell these idiots to get some extra pillows, then hang up.

I am dreading call as a call handler like this, if i get the job. Firstly because i will want to tell them what 999 is really for but mainly i will feel so bad for having to send a crew to this!

Can't imagine why our response times are so bad and all the senior managers are papping themselves when they keep sending us to this stuff...

Yesterday - earache, 200m from A/E. Unbelievable.

I've had a call for 'being hungry' before. And quite a few other lame excuses for calling 911.

Patient: "I can't sleep."

Paramedic: "Me either, dispatch keeps sending me on stupid calls for people who can't sleep."

Sadly, we can't say that, although we can think it.

I don't know about in your system, but in ours, this patient goes to the waiting room and the bottom of the list.

And there I was feeling really bad when I had to call an ambulance for a horrific pain I had in my groin/lower back/side (which turned out to be a Kidney Stone deciding it was time to exit) and the only option I had was to call an ambulance as my car was dead, no money for a taxi to get to hospital and the friends I tried were either out or too drunk to drive me..........

Oh my god!!! Everytime I read something like this it still shocks me that you even get sent on this kind of job.
A & E for earache is bad enough.. Expecting an ambulance to take you beggars belief.

People are idiots. I got a call for the woman in labor one night. Just prior to her calling us, her boyfriend was transported to the hospital after being in a fight. She wanted to ride along and we told her she could. She said she needed to get something to read while she was at the hospital. We explained to her that her boyfriend was in very bad shape and we needed to leave immediately. If she went back into the house to get a book, we would leave without her. She could get in the ambulance now sans entertainment material or she could find another way to get to the hospital. She went to get her book and the ambulance crew left. 4 minutes after they went in route, we go the call for the female at the location in labor!!!! I wanted to punch her in the vagina so she would feel something similar to a contraction! However, I did win in this case! She was 8 months along so she wasn't transported to the ED. We took her up to Labor and Delivery! She was pissed!!!! Yup, Missy, we may have a duty to act but we are smarter than you!
